The Moroccan hammam routine at home: with beldi soap, a kessa glove, ghassoul, and argan oil, you can turn your bathroom into a private hammam. Explained step by step.
In a Moroccan hammam, everything revolves around one thing: literally letting your skin breathe. Warm steam, black soap, a vigorous scrub with the kessa glove, and finally, nourishing care. The good news: that complete routine can easily be replicated at home. In this article, we walk through the steps, along with the products that belong to them.
Start with a warm shower or a full bath, so that your skin pores open up and the dead skin cells are released. In a real hammam, it is the steam that does this work; at home, a warm shower or bath is the closest equivalent. Take your time: the warmth is the preparation for the scrub.
Apply the Aytira Beldi Black Soap Aker Fasi to your damp skin, from neck to feet. This soap, made from olive oil and crushed olive pulp, degreases and softens the skin, preparing it for the scrub. Let the soap soak in for 5 to 10 minutes in the warmth. You can read more about this soap in our article about Moroccan black soap.

Now comes the moment the hammam is all about: the scrub. Rinse off some of the soap so that the skin is slippery, and scrub with the kessa glove in long, firm strokes. You will see it happen immediately: gray rolls of dead skin will come loose. That is normal and exactly what should happen. Do not scrub too long in one place and avoid your face; there are gentler products for that.

After the scrub, your skin is extra receptive to care. Apply a ready-to-use ghassoul mask or choose the version with rose and aker fassi for the face. Ghassoul, a natural clay from the Atlas Mountains, draws impurities from the skin and leaves it soft and matte. Let the mask soak in and rinse off with lukewarm water.
Finish with a light layer of cold-pressed argan oil on your still slightly damp skin. Argan oil is rich in vitamin E and absorbs quickly. If you prefer to use a cream, you can also apply the oil as a night treatment. With this step, your skin will feel not only clean but also soft and nourished.
