Which percolator or cafetière suits you?
- Percolator or cafetière: with a percolator or espresso maker, you brew coffee on the stove. In a cafetière or plunger pot, also known as a French press, you pour hot water over the coffee and press the plunger down after a few minutes.
- Number of cups: percolators are available for 4, 6, 9, and 12 espresso cups. For many models, the capacity is indicated, for example, 300 ml for 6 cups and 450 ml for 9 cups.
- Stainless steel or aluminum: stainless steel percolators are available from Kinghoff, Klausberg, and Hakal. The aluminum espresso makers from Kinghoff are black, some with a wooden handle.
- Induction: only a magnetic base works on induction. Therefore, choose a model that is stated as suitable for induction or all heat sources, such as the Hakal Line, the Klausberg KB-7846 and KB-7847, or the aluminum espresso makers from Kinghoff.
- Plunger pots: Klausberg plunger pots from 0.35 to 1 liter for coffee, tea, and herbs, for example in double-walled glass, octagonal, or olive green. There is also a 1-liter cafetière (French press).
- For tea: the glass and stainless steel tea makers from Kinghoff, in 0.35 and 0.8 liters, are dishwasher safe.
How to brew coffee with a percolator
Fill the bottom section with water to just below the valve. Add ground coffee to the filter basket without tamping it down, and screw the top section on firmly. Place the percolator on medium heat. When the water boils, the steam pressure pushes it up through the coffee. Once you hear it gurgling, remove it from the heat. Use finely ground coffee for a percolator and coarsely ground coffee for a cafetière. If you grind your own beans, you can do so finely or coarsely with the electric coffee grinder from Klausberg.
